APC summons NEC meeting over Saraki, Dogara

… as Buhari meets Lawan, others

The All Progressives Congress has summoned a session of its National Executive Committee (NEC) for Tuesday to discuss the defiance of the party’s directive by the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara.

Ahead of the said meeting, President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday met with Sen. Ahmed Lawan and other senators in the Unity Forum group.

Tuesday’s NEC meeting in Abuja, a reliable party source said, is meant to “review the situation in the National Assembly, especially the defiance of the directive of the party on the choice of principal officers by Saraki and Dogara.”

NASS crisis: What Buhari should say

House of Rep

ON June 9, Senator Bukola Saraki emerged the new Senate President of the 8th Senate with 57 senators affirming his election in the absence of 51 All Progressives Congress (APC) senators. He was unopposed in circumstances that have become deeply controversial, and will remain hauntingly so for some time to come. In the House of Representatives, where the election was keener, Hon Yakubu Dogara defeated Hon Femi Gbajabiamila by eight votes to become the new Speaker of the 8th House of Representatives. Our party had presented the pairs of Senator Ahmed Lawan/ George Akume and Femi Gbajabiamila/ Mohammed Tahir Monguno for the elections. The APC tickets failed to sail through.

Reports of what transpired at both chambers of the National Assembly have tended to suggest that I am generally indifferent to events on the floors of both chambers of the National Assembly, or that I am at loggerheads with a few members of the APC leadership. It is also suggested that perhaps because of my seeming disinterestedness in NASS politics, especially the leadership elections, the APC had become leaderless and susceptible to chaotic, obstreperous behaviour.  It was even insinuated that the APC NASS leadership tickets were really not inspired by the party but by those who planned a grand and elaborate design to build and consolidate their political power bases to encircle and possibly emasculate me. If it were true I knew nothing of the party’s failed NASS tickets, it might indeed sound plausible that I welcomed the present stalemated outcomes of the elections to achieve the purposes insinuated to me. Many other suppositions will be read to my actions, whether they are direct or indirect, real or imagined, altruistic or selfish.

The dark side of desire. Making sense of Senator Bukola Saraki’s anti-party activities'

Bukola Saraki

FEW stalwarts and very few members of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) would forgive Senator Bukola Saraki for daring to stifle the party’s irregular postage stamp of change; besides the cushioned seat and wooden gavel symbolising the exalted office of the new Senate President, a towering lust the size of a rat’s grace is all that’s left of him, in the eyes of the party’s leadership. By persistently defying the party’s dictates, Saraki has attained the reputation of an unrepentant deviant within the ranks of the ruling party.

But what manner of deviance is Saraki’s? A form of deviancy is emerges through lineages. Another as nemesis to valour. Yet another by spasms of cupidity and the mind’s eye. Senator Saraki personifies a bit of everything to everyone. To his friends and old associates in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he is a hero. To his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), he is simply a deviant. But Saraki does not seem to care about how people see him; he does not appear to be interested in being on the right side of history; neither is he given to the tasking politics of political correctness. He simply wished to be Senate President. Now, he is Senate President.

Having ridden into the Senate on the platform of the APC, chanting the party’s mantra of ‘Change,’ Saraki plotted to become Senate President against the party’s wish and in flagrant disregard for the party’s celebrated political mores. While the party decided on Senators Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as its preferred candidates for the positions of Senate President and Speaker, House of Representatives respectively, Saraki would have none of that. He plotted to become Senate President and he succeeded via the deployment of the basest form of chicanery.

Is Buhari already confused? Etcetera asks in new article

Singer and writer Etcetera writes on Pres. Buhari and the few weeks he's spent in office as president. Read below...
If there is any group of individuals who can manufacture shock, political punditry out of nothing, it is the All Progressives Congress. They cried out that Jonathan was doing a terrible job as President of Nigeria. They said his inability to run the Federal Government is the reason our country has lapsed into wholesale chaos. He is the reason corruption decimated our population, turned brother against brother. He is the reason our military became weak and our borders constantly breached by Niger, Chad and Cameroonian gendarmes.
He is the reason our cities have all lost power and we have reclined back into the dark ages. He is the reason why thousands of wild dogs/Boko Haram roam our streets and rip our children apart. With democracy being an institution where we worry about how many people ‘agree’ about certain things, APC must be concerned that Nigerians are actually seeing that Buhari is not the messiah we need. When I wrote that Nigerians shouldn’t celebrate Buhari yet, a lot of his sympathisers reached for my scalp with all types of derogatory vocabularies.
