Odion Ighalo
Super Eagles forward, Odion Ighalo, has been in celebration mood since Saturday when his club, Watford FC, secured promotion to the English Premier League after an eight-year absence.
Ighalo, who has scored 20 goals to contribute to the Hornets’ success, played 65 minutes in the club’s Saturday 2-0 away win over Brighton at Amex Stadium.
The win, which was Watford’s fifth successive victory, took their tally to 88 points. At the moment, Bournemouth, who have 84 points and a match in hand, is the only team that can catch up with them as the season winds up.
The other teams in the Championship top four, who have played 45 matches alongside Watford are Middlesbrough with 84 points and Norwich with 83 points.
Coach Slavosa Jokanovic and his wards went into a wild celebration after Middlesbrough lost 3-4 to Fulham and Norwich were held to a 1-1 draw by Rotherham.
Ighalo, in a series of tweets, including videos of celebration with his teammates, expressed gratitude to God for the chance to play in the English top flight
“Thank you Jesus, because at last it all ended in praise; they wrote us off from the first day but with God all things are possible; celebration mood; is this real or I’m still dreaming,” Ighalo wrote on Twitter on Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation has congratulated Ighalo, saying the EPL would most likely make him a better player.
