Salary Cut Not Enough, PDP Tells Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party has told President Muhamamdu Buhari and his deputy, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, that cutting their salaries will not be the only thing Nigerians are expecting from them.
Rather, the party said the President and his party, the All Progressives Congress, must strive to fulfil their electioneering promises.

Moreover, the party said that salary is a mere drop in the ocean of personal allowances and privileges that come to the president.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has registered the Democratic People’s Congress as a political party.

In a letter dated July 8, 2015, with reference number INEC/DEPM/DPC/511/11 and signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Augusta Ogakwu, the commission said the Democratic People’s Congress was registered at its meeting on Friday June 19, 2015.

National leader of APC, Bola Tinubu says contrary to popular opinion, he has not placed any demand on President Buhari since he assumed office. Tinubu said this while speaking to state house correspondents after breaking the Ramadan fast with President Buhari at the state house this evening

Pres. Buhari was this evening joined by the National Leader of APC, Bola Tinubu and former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi to break the Ramadan fast in the Presidential villa this evening.

Pesident Muhammadu Buhari has directed law enforcement agencies to step up their efforts to curb the menace of pirates in Nigeria's entertainment industry so that artistes can enjoy the fruits of their labour. President Buhari gave the directive after receiving a briefing from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan and her Directors Tuesday in Abuja.
“Nollywood is making progress. We should work with them. Unless they are backed, they will be ruined by pirates who want to reap where they have not sowed. "They have built an industry with their own sweat. It is therefore incumbent on us to give them the necessary support,” President

Former Niger Delta Affairs Minister Godsday Orubebe has been quizzed in connection with the ongoing investigation of an alleged N605million fraud.

The cash was withdrawn from the Constituency Project account of the ministry by five officials without authorisation while Orubebe was in charge.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has filed charges against the five. They are: Yusuf Agabi (Director of Finance and Account), Akpore Okeroghene (Deputy Director of Finance), Abibu Ayinla (Director of Finance), Idowu Adewale (Deputy Director, Accounts) and Ngozi James (Deputy Director, Accounts).

New NSA’s Family Member Being Held By Boko Haram Insurgents - Governor Shettima

National Security Adviser (NSA) Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno has his job cut out for him – a member of his family is being held by Boko Haram insurgents, Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima said yesterday.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday named Gen. Monguno NSA. He fired the Service Chiefs and replaced the NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) with Monguno.

To Shettima, the change of guards at the military hierarchy has offered a unique opportunity to defeat Boko Haram.

The value of the naira continued to sink at the parallel market yesterday selling at N245 to the dollar and N366 to the British pound even as the external reserves and inflation figures of the country maintained a steady rise.

The demand for foreign currency at the parallel market which is constituted by the bureaux de change and black market operators had soared after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) decided to exclude 41 items from assessing foreign exchange at the official end of the market.

It had taken this decision as the external reserves of the country declined to $29 billion and have since been on the uptick, rising by 3.3 per cent within 13 days.

HOLIDAYING former President Goodluck Jonathan has dashed into Abuja to launch a protest, The Nation has learnt.

Dr Jonathan is disturbed by the determination of President Muhammadu Buhari to probe how $2.1billion was illegally withdrawn from the Excess Crude Account (ECA), sources said yesterday, pleading not to be named “because of the sensitivity of the matter”.

A mum has sparked outrage after she refused to allow firefighters to break into her car to save her toddler son from the heat because the vehicle was too expensive to damage.

The unnamed mother was unable to open the door of her BMW when it accidentally locked itself.
Her three-year-old son was trapped inside and was suffering in the heat as no windows were open.

Firefighters who arrived at the scene in Yiwu city, China, were about to break the glass to rescue the boy, but his mum told them she wanted to wait for a locksmith instead so the car would not be damaged.

Seventeen-year-old Beninoise woman, Abiodun Ojo, who killed her husband, Jimoh, in the Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos State, has said she poisoned her husband because she hated him.

Abiodun, during an interview with PUNCH Metro, blamed her father for forcing her to marry Jimoh, who she said never took care of her. She said she had run away from the deceased three times, and was sent back by her father, who she described as the architect of her problem.

PUNCH Metro had reported that Abiodun had been handed over to Jimoh as wife by her father to stop her from marrying her boyfriend.

Black Pastor Jailed for Refusing To Wed Gay Couple In US

Since we Africans say we can no longer respect our traditional marriage again, that it is the white man's Court Marriage that we must follow, why are we running away from their Gay Marriage? Lol!

A pastor at the Christian Proctor Church in Vermont, has been sentenced to one year in federal prison after he refused to marry a gay couple.
The Honorable Myron Danus handed down the harsh sentence. “Religious freedom goes both ways, Mr. Horner,” Danus told a packed courtroom. “It is not your place to deny individuals the same rights that everyone else has, rights that were passed down and agreed upon in a court of law, the ultimate court, the Supreme Court. It is not your decision whether or not you agree with the law but more importantly that you follow it and enforce it.”

The EFCC has told the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that two key witnesses it lined up to testify against the former governor of Adamawa State, Admiral Murtala Nyako, rtd, who is facing money laundering charge, have died under mysterious circumstances.

‎The EFCC, via a counter-affidavit that was deposed to by its lead Detectives, Adekunle Christopher Odofin, ‎said that the witnesses, Ma’aji Mohammed Iro and Abdulmalik Dalhatu were found dead shortly after they came to its office and ‎testified against the accused former governor.

The late Mohammed Iro was the then Regional Manager of Zenith Bank Plc, North East, Nigeria‎, and was in charge of the accounts of Adamawa State with the bank.
He was said to have adduced incriminating evidence against Nyako who is answering to a 37-count criminal charge alongside his son, Abdulaziz, a serving Senator.
They are facing trial alongside their alleged accomplices - Zulkifikk Abba and Abubakar Aliyu.

Five companies that allegedly served as conduit pipes for the illegal diversion of the funds-Blue Opal Limited, Sebore Farms & Extension Limited, Pagoda Fortunes Limited, Tower Assets Management Limited and Crust Energy Limited, were equally charged as the 5th to 9th accused persons.

Trial Justice Evoh Chukwu had on Friday granted the accused persons bail to the tune of N350million each.

They were asked to produce two persons to stand as their sureties or in the alternative, provide one surety who must be a serving Director in any federal government establishment.

The surety according to the court must show a proof of ownership of landed property in Abuja, depose to an affidavit of means before the Deputy Chief Registrar of the High Court, as well as, show evidence of three years tax payment.

Besides, the accused persons were directed to surrender their international passport to the court alongside their two recent passport photographs, even as the court slated ‎September 30 to commence their trial.

However, EFCC is kicking against their release on bail, decrying that, “two of our crucial witnesses have died in mysterious circumstances and this has instilled fear in other prospective witnesses in this case”.

Singer Oritsefemi Hospitalized

Double Wahala crooner and D’banj’s protégé, Oritsefemi is presently hospitalized at the Premier Medical Specialists’ Medical Centre in Lekki. The singer was rushed there when he fell ill and had to put everything on hold including a video shoot he was supposed to start yesterday. She said the commission was currently working with security agencies to apprehend those behind the illegal radio.

An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, who slumped while controlling traffic on Ishaga Road in the Idi-Araba, Mushin area on Saturday, has died.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the official, Kazeem Lawal, was brought in dead to the Randle Hospital, Surulere, where his colleagues had rushed him.

The official, who was among LASTMA officials on duty for an event at the Chapel of the Healing Cross, last Saturday had collapsed at about 1.30pm. It was also reported that Lawal, who was gasping for breath, was rushed to a hospital after he did not respond to preliminary treatment.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a woman, Helen Okeke, who allegedly killed her neighbour, identified only as Rose, in the Ikota, Ajah area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Okeke slit Rose’s throat after the duo reportedly had an argument over who poured urine on the latter’s clothes that were spread on the entrance door to her room.
The incident occurred at about 5pm last Wednesday in the Ikota Housing Estate, Ikota Second Gate area.
Rose, who was reportedly preparing for her wedding, had returned from work in the afternoon, and noticed a foul smell on the clothes spread on her door.

It was learnt that the deceased went to the landlady, Alhaja Iyabo Hamzat, to report the matter. The
landlady was said to have pacified her, offering to give her the money to buy some detergent to wash the clothes.

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Police and other security agencies to comply with the court’ s order sacking local government chairmen in Rivers State until the Court of Appeal rules otherwise .

The police yesterday withdrew from the secretariats of the local governments in deference to the presidential directive .

It was learnt that Buhari gave the order to demonstrate his commitment to the Rule of Law contrary to the insinuations in some quarters , especially by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) .

Pandemonium as woman bites off daughter's ear in Delta

Pandemonium broke out at the weekend in Akumazi community, Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State when a 46-year-old woman, Chiekube Igbinosa, bit off her daughter’s ear during a brawl over a man. Investigations by our correspondent showed that Igbinosa and her daughter, Mabel, were both having an affair with the same man, unknown to the mother. The man at the centre of the love triangle, sources told our correspondent, is a trader who was allegedly deported from Spain a couple of years ago.

The elder Igbinosa reportedly started an affair with the man while her daughter, who just graduated from a university, was away in Rivers State where she was observing her one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps scheme. It was learnt that Mabel returned to Asaba recently for a short vacation and started an affair with her mother’s lover.

Mrs. Amaka Otuonyeandinma, a housewife seeking divorce, told Ojo Grade A Customary Court that her once loving husband, George, whom she had shown so much love was claiming she's now a bad wife. She told the court: “My life is in danger. George fights me frequently, he threatens my life. There is no more love in this relationship”. She added that all efforts to resolve the issues have proved abortive. “All peace initiatives, particularly from his kinsmen, were not successful because he said he had more valuable things to do than settling the misunderstanding between us.

” But while responding, George said he was shocked to receive the court summons as efforts were on to resolve the issues by his kinsmen. Before adjourning the matter to August 3, 2015, court president, Chief Joseph Ogumola, lectured the couple on the dangers in divorce, asking them to find ways to resolve their differences.
